Direct TV DVR without a phone line!

They say it cannot be done, BUT the truth of the matter is they don't WANT you to have the dvr setup without a landline, but it does work!

If you call tech support and tell the the error code that a "regular" receiver has before it is activated they can enable the DVR box without a phone line! (you'll see it as soon as you power up the new dvr)

Makes sense if you think about it as the new DVR is really just a receiver with an mpeg recorder in it and unlike TIVO service it DOES NOT NEED a constant telco connection to access programming, it does it all over the air via the satellite!
